Our dad, Carlos Medina, was such a proud member of the 69th Depot Repair Squadron. We remember several stories he mentioned to us. One story we recall is how the “tigers” grouped together because they didn’t have a church for Sunday worship. They decided to build a church to conduct their services. The church altar was constructed from airplane scraps and the cover of the church was sewn from parachute material by our dad. As we were growing up we noticed our dad could sew with such precision. How many men do you know who can sew? He explained to us how his job in the military was to sew parachutes and the importance of precision. He told us of a slogan created by the parachute specialist that was imprinted on a sign that read,”You can count on us… we’ll always let you down.”
